I chose medicine for a simple reason: to help the others.

From an early age I was struck by human suffering, and the idea of being able to contribute, even if only to the lives of the people I meet along the way, always made sense to me.

Along the way I have also been driven by curiosity. Wanting to understand how things work, looking for better solutions, exploring new approaches. Medicine brings all of that together: knowledge, constant evolution and a real impact on people's lives.

Choosing Urology came naturally. It is a complete and demanding speciality, and one that is constantly innovating. It allows me to combine clinical reasoning, intervention (both surgical and non-surgical) and close contact with the patient — something I value deeply.

Today I continue to do what motivated me from the outset: helping each person to live better, with more quality of life and less suffering.

Professional Career

My professional career has been shaped by continuous training, by growing clinical and surgical experience, and by researching and integrating innovative techniques into the diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases.

1991

Early career

I graduated in Medicine at the Medical School of Medicine of the University of Lisbon and began my hospital clinical practice.

1995

International training

From 1995 to the present day I have completed a number of clinical visits at leading European and American centres, where I came into contact with innovative techniques in Urology. Since then I have maintained continuous scientific and technical development, keeping pace with the evolution of the speciality.

2000

Specialisation in Urology

I completed my residency in Urology and consolidated my experience in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of urological diseases.

2008

Clinical Director

I took on the Chief Medical Officer position of the Instituto da Próstata, a project dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of prostate diseases.

Assistant at the Medical School of Medicine of the University of Lisbon

Co-founder of Evosurg, a start-up dedicated to augmented reality in laparoscopic surgery

Founder of the ICU - Innovation Center for Urology, the innovation department of the Instituto da Próstata

Three patents granted for three of the products developed: a medicine to relieve post-operative symptoms, a medical device (a catheter) for the treatment of haematuria — blood in the urine — and a surgical device for use in prostate cancer surgery

Co-founder of Urola

Co-founder of the start-up Urola, dedicated to developing innovative medical devices

The Instituto da Próstata

It is at the Instituto da Próstata in Lisbon that I care for my patients in the diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases, with a particular focus on prostate diseases.

As Chief Medical Officer, I am responsible for ensuring a rigorous, up-to-date and person-centred approach, in which every case is assessed individually and every clinical decision is taken on the basis of what is most appropriate for the patient.

Here we combine clinical experience, advanced technology and close follow-up, because I believe that treating the disease is only part of the process. The aim is always to preserve the quality of life of those who come to me.
